West Indian Mango
I once wrote an ode to a mango, so strong is my love for this fruit. In pursuit of ultimate mango loyalty, we searched far and wide to find the truest scent of mango. It's sweet for sure, but with a lemony top note. To make this bar a jewel in our fruit basket, we infused our soap oils with Jamaican annatto seeds, ripening the colour to a befitting hue. The result is a beautiful marbling of mango soap loveliness.
The family mango obsession is attributed squarely to my parents. Their favourite is the aromatic, firm-fleshed Julie mango (and there's always been a tree growing in their garden, planted and replanted after some memorable hurricane seasons), though I am partial to a juicy Bombay myself. Because I can't get into the particulars of the smell with any decent description, we decided to call this one simply 'West Indian' mango.
Our Sargasso Botanica soaps begin with a base of coconut butter + aloe vera. To this, we add olive oil, mango butter, and wildcrafted murumuru butter.
Though eating it on its own is a treat . . . especially after a long and patient wait for mango season. . . we also love mango as a savoury at our dinner table. Try a Trinidadian mango chow with your next curry.
